In 1987, with nothing more than a desire to ski faster, two ski racing teammates began their search for the ultimate speed additive. Over the past 20 years their passion for speed has brought them to this point in history. The company who gets it’s name from their main product, has evolved and now finally is ready to present the fruits of their labor to the ski racing world.
Original formulas were developed after an extensive market survey. All the speed additives available at the time were tested and tested. An Achilles heel was found with each product. For some it was a limited effectiveness in certain snow types. For others it was a narrow temperature and humidity range in which it was effective. For others it was a difficult application process. Original Big Speed formulas addressed many of the issues suffered by the other additives. More testing continued and was put through the paces in conjunction with several top nations’ world cup ski teams, many of the fastest skier cross racers. While the feedback and results were all positive, the reaction from the respective governing bodies was not. The earlier generations of the Big Speed additive was deemed to be an “unfair advantage” and was quickly outlawed in FIS sanctioned ski racing.
The two speed freaks were determined to pursue their passion and began testing new formulations and recipes of their product quietly and under the radar of big brother, on the downhill tracks at Jay Peak, Ragged Mountain, as well as on the Super G trails at Sugarloaf and White Face, just to mention a few. As in tests before, then new formulas of the Big Speed wax additive showed time and time again to be the fastest product on the hill. Still the two men knew they had not yet done their best work. There was something better still to come.
Big speed is proud to have developed yet a new formula, which allows for a simple application process. A hot waxing, brushing or corking in method for application can be used. Big Speed also offers a much wider temperature range than other additives in which it is effective. Big Speed also delivers a smooth blend in with nearly every major hard wax on the market.
